Noodles

“Mommy where are we going for dinner?”
“Romio’s”
“Yay! They have the best butter noodles. No, they have the second best butter noodles in the whole world.”
“Whose are your favorite?”
“Yours”
“That’s nice!”
“I’m just saying that because I don’t want to hurt your feelings.”

Snow day!

There’s a dusting of snow here, so the schools are closed, LOL. We set up snow day art:

I put on some thick fleece pants (essentially sweats) to go clean off the car and Elijah pointed at me and yelled “Daddy’s pants! Daddy’s pants!” Heh heh heh….

Meanwhile, Toby is entering his 3rd or 4th month of this annoyance called a ‘tic cough’. He’s always been prone to the magic of the placebo, but none of the measures we are taking are helping very much. We have an ENT appointment for Feb. 3rd (yeah, I know). There are some drugs to help, but they are probably neurosuppressants. I think I’d rather just try working on changing the habit and getting it to the point where it at least isn’t interfering with life and see if we can avoid drugs if we can. Luckily his teacher is so far very understanding about it. But it’s trying. Sigh…

Uno

My mom has been here for about 10 days. She and Toby play a lot of UNO, and it’s fierce. Six year-old trash talk is hilarious.

The day she left, Toby said “I’m sad that Gramma’s leaving.”. I said “Me too.”
“Why, because she’s your mom?”
“Yes”
“Well, of course. Why would you want your mom to leave… and why would you want somebody who is pretty good at playing UNO to leave?”

Whip!

“Mommy, do you know the happiest thing in the United States?”

“No, what?”

“WHIP CREAM!!!!…… If you have some…”

I caught a bath!

On vacation in Missouri, Toby got to go fishing for the first time. When he got back with Grampa, he kept telling me all about how he caught a catfish and a ‘bath’ (aka bass). LOL!

Resurrect?

All right, I am going to try to resurrect this thing. The boys are growing up and changing so quickly. But I got an email from yahoo about their blogging service changing and I have no idea if I can even post to it any more. So I haven’t tried. Here goes attempt #1. Hope it works.

We have had an excellent if not overly busy summer. We saw cousin Nina and her parents in Reno at Nonny and Bayde’s and Gramma and Grampa in Missouri. We went camping and to the lavendar festival and many a Not-It’s concert. Toby is really himself again after some rough times in the last half of the school year, mostly due to sleep issues. He’s sleeping better now and I hope that continues when first grade starts in 2 WEEKS. Eek! And whew!

Elijah is all about language development and independence. He is stubborn and strong willed and hilarious and smart. He learns new words every day. I had heard about this burst of language development when Toby was little, but I honestly thought people were making that up. No, turns out it’s true. Elijah is a chatterbox and amazes me with his perception. He overheard us talking about marshmallows and now demands “mallow” from time to time.

As for this entry’s kid quote – yesterday coming home from camp, we walked in the front door and Toby said “Wow you actually cleaned the house.”

Ow.

Hmm…

Overheard just now, Toby is explaining to Elijah. “When Mommy and Daddy die, then we can play together all by ourselves!!!”

Mmmm…. croutons

When we check out at the grocery store, Toby always looks at the machine that spits out coupons for stuff you never buy and asks, “Mommy, did we get any croutons?” LOLOL

Of course!

I just asked Toby if he wanted to help me make Elijah’s bottle. His reply, “Of course I will because I love helping people!”

Demoted

For a couple of years now, I’ve been getting nice little love notes from Toby. Today’s note:

“Dear Mom. I love TV”.

D’oh!
